New York Islanders Anthony Beauvillier Heating Up At Right Time

New York Islanders forward Anthony Beauvillier is heating up at the right time. He now has four goals in the last four games.

Anthony Beauvillier got off to a putrid start with the New York Islanders this year. He had just one point in his first 16 games, and with his ice time being diminished it looked like he was on the verge of being sent to the AHL.

On Thursday against the Rangers, Beauvillier broke out and found the net three times for his first career hat trick. Not only was it his first hatty, but it was also the first time in his career that he put up four points in a game.

The question then became would this be a fluke or has Beau finally found his game. He answered those questions on Sunday when he found the back of the net early in the first to give the Islanders a 1-0 lead over Dallas.

At that point, Beauvillier had five points in the last four periods. It couldn’t come at a more perfect time for the Islanders.

The top-six hasn’t been particularly good the last few games, and especially on Sunday when they were dominated by the Stars’ impressive top line. Anders Lee has one goal in the last seven games, as your top goal scorer, he has to have more of an impact.

Even Barry Trotz called out the top-six for their play:

“We need more from our top guys, plain and simple. I’m done protecting them in terms of they’re going to have to go head to head.”

It’s been a theme for the Islanders all year long. Yes, it’s great that Casey Cizikas, Valtteri Filppula, Tom Kuhnhackl and Leo Komarov are contributing above their head’s right now but it’s not sustainable.

If and when they regress, naturally, the Islanders need more from the big guns. For now, the Beauvillier hot streak will have to do. He’s picking up the slack playing with Komarov and Filppula while the Barzal and Nelson lines are struggling.
