New York Islanders Michael Dal Colle Scores First NHL Goal

The New York Islanders fifth overall pick from the 2014 NHL Draft has finally scored his first NHL goal. It took a while but it was well deserved.

He was drafted fifth overall in the 2014 NHL Draft by the New York Islanders. And finally after a long wait, Michael Dal Colle is playing in the NHL and he’s now scored his first NHL goal.

After waiting 1,665 days since being drafted, Michael Dal Colle has that elusive NHL goal to his name.

He’s worked incredibly hard to get to this point and faced some significant doubt that this day would ever come. But here we are with his first NHL goal to his name. And it was a pretty one too.

The Goal. The Struggle

Hockey 101. Keep your stick on the ice. Dal Colle uses his big body to his advantage and gains  position on the Devils defender. As the puck deflects off a Devils shin it comes right to Dal Colle who redirects it into an open cage.

What a first NHL goal for Dal Colle. Good on him. He’s absolutely deserved it.

With 95 points in 67 games with the Oshawa Generals of the OHL in his draft year Dal Colle was an easy pick at number five.

Over his entire junior career Dal Colle scored 316 points in 246 games. THe Islanders figured they picked a great player. One that could have a tremendous impact at the NHL level. But four years out he had yet to make the NHL and wasn’t much of a factor at the AHL level either.

Until 2018-19. Before being called up to the NHL the second time this season Dal Colle scored 28 points in 28 games for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

In fact, he still leads the Sound Tigers in scoring but hasn’t been there since December 28th, 2018. He’s worked incredibly hard to get here and he’s deserved every single opportunity he’s been given this season.
