The New York Islanders new arena is expected to be ready in 2021-2022 and today we found out what the dimensions will look like.
Belmont Park will be home to the New York Islanders soon enough. Even though there was an emotional return to Nassau Coliseum just this past week, everyone knows that it’s a temporary solution but a fun one.
The real prize is when the arena at Belmont Park is set to open up. There was some information on the new building that came out today that will make Islanders fans happy.
We got a tip to check out the minutes from the meeting today in regards to the new arena. There were sketches of the new arena, the hotel, and of course some of the shops that will go up in the development.
Obviously, the one we really care about and want to see is the arena. According to the sketches, the height of the building is set to be 100 feet. It’s a low ceiling, meaning that it will be a loud building just like the Coliseum.
Now for reference, the Coliseum is 75 feet tall so obviously, that ceiling is a lot lower but keep in mind the new place will have close to 3,000 more seats.
Rogers Place, which is where the Edmonton Oilers began to play in September of 2016, is 141 feet tall. Detroit’s new building is 100 feet tall but it also starts 37 feet below ground so technically it’s a higher ceiling in Detroit than it is in Belmont.
Ultimately, the fans are going to have to be able to fill the new place in order to get the same atmosphere. If Lou Lamoriello and Barry Trotz continue to build here they should have no problem filling that building.
Regardless, the Islanders are in great shape and will be able to continue their tradition of a strong home-ice advantage. Get excited Islanders fans.
