New York Islanders Shutout Ducks In 5th Straight Win

The New York Islanders win their fifth in a row with a 3-0 shutout over the Ducks. The Isles extend their first-place lead to three points.

In their first game since taking over first place in the Metropolitan Division, the New York Islanders came out hot. Just 3:28 into the first frame, the Ducks took a penalty sending the Isles to a power play.

The Isles power play has been an issue this year but they were able to capitalize on their first power play of the day.

Cal Clutterbuck took a feed in the slot and buried it past the Ducks netminder to give the Islanders the early lead. It was Clutter’s fifth of the year, coming at the perfect time on the man advantage.

The Isles and Cal weren’t done in the period. At the 9:56 mark, Clutterbuck would get his second of the period to extend the lead to 2-0. This time it was Adam Pelech who had the assist, and Clutterbuck picked up his fifth point in the last five games.

Often times, people get on Cal for his cap hit and lack of production since signing his lucrative extension. He’s been hot for the Islanders lately, and their fourth line is a huge part of this team’s success.

The Isles dominated the shot differential, 12 to five. It was abundantly clear that the Ducks never made it off the bus and the home team was the one ready to go.

In the second period, the Islanders only had four shots on goal. But, Leo Komarov netted his sixth of the year.

Devon Toews received the puck and let one rip for the blue line. Komarov, cutting his way across the ice redirected it on goal and gave the Islanders a 3-0 lead.

That would be the last goal of the game for either side. In the third period, Robin Lehner stood tall. He only faced six shots in the period but he maintained the shutout. Lehner stopped all 19 shots faced for the Isles fifth win in a row.
